Nearly 550 thousand students in Dong Nai begin new school-year

(ĐN)- Nearly 550 thousand students from pre-school to tertiary education levels throughout the province started the new school-year on September 5, the second year the education sector has implemented a campaign tackling negative phenomena and the achievement craze in exams.

(ĐN)- Nearly 550 thousand students from pre-school to tertiary education levels throughout the province started the new school-year on September 5, the second year the education sector has implemented a campaign tackling negative phenomena and the achievement craze in exams. To mark the occasion, the province’s leaders attended the new school year ceremonies at schools in the province.

 

* Secretary of Dong Nai Provincial Party Committee Tran Dinh Thanh on Sept.5 joined the teaching staff and nearly 1,300 students of Ngo Quyen High School in the opening ceremony of the new school year. In the 2006-2007 school year, the school gained positive results in teaching and learning. It has the highest graduation rate among the high schools in the province with 99.09 percent. At the ceremony, Sacombank offered 20 scholarships to outstanding poor students of the school.

 

* The same day, Huynh Chi Thang, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Council, attended the inaugural ceremony of the 2007-08 school year at Tran Bien High School. Established in 2003, the school has had a high graduation rate during the past four years.  In the last school year, more than 40 percent of its students passed the university entrance exams. On this occasion, the school’s managing board commended and rewarded 7 students who have high scores in the university-enter exam; Dong Nai provincial Study Encouragement Association also honored 6 excellent students in the 2006-2007 school year. At the ceremony, the school’s teachers and students contributed 10,000 notebooks to the program entitled “100,000 notebooks for pupils in deep-lying and remote areas” launched by Dong Nai Newspaper.

 

* Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee Vo Van Mot and Director of the Provincial Department of Education and Training Le Minh Hoang also attended the opening of the 2007-2008 school year at the province’s boarding school for ethnic minorities. In the new school year, the school has enrolled 145 new students of ethnic minorities, bringing the total number of students up to 424. Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman Vo Van Mot expressed his hope that the school’s teachers and students would made further efforts to achieve good results in teaching and learning. On the occasion, the school inaugurated public culture house and its dormitory where is home to 250 students.

 

* At the same time, over 800 students of Luong The Vinh Senior High School attended the new school year opening ceremony. Attending the ceremony was Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Dinh Quoc Thai. In past school years, the school has educated and trained excellent students who won prizes at national and international contests. At the ceremony, the school granted 12 Matsuda scholarships worth VND3 million each to poor students with high academic achievements.

 

*An opening ceremony of the new school year was also held at Long Thanh High School with the attention of Chairwoman of the Provincial People’s Committee Huynh Thi Nga. For the school year 2007-2008, Long Thanh High School is recognized as national standard one for its outstanding achievements in teaching and studying.
