The event, which will be jointly organised by STEAM for Vietnam, the American Centres in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, and Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST), aims to bring ten Vietnamese teams to compete at the world’s largest robotics competition: VEX Robotics World Championship 2023 in Dallas, Texas.

The 2023 Vietnam VEX IQ National Robotics Championship consists of a primary student group for students aged 12 and under, and a junior student group for students aged 15 and under. It hopes to attract 250 teams nationwide.

According to Tran Viet Hung, STEAM for Vietnam Foundation co-founder, said the championship is a large-scale robotics tournament that helps students across the country have hands-on experiences in science, technology, engineering, and math furthering their learning outcomes. It is also expected to facilitate students develop necessary soft skills for the future, such as computational thinking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.

“We are delighted that students from all regions of Vietnam now have the opportunity to study and participate in challenges just like students from developed countries such as the United States. Our hope is that by participating in this tournament, Vietnamese students will gradually gain the essential skills and experience necessary to be able to compete in the global market in the future,” Hung said.

As a co-host of the 2023 National VEX IQ Robotics Championship, the American Centres in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City will assist in organising seminars and specialised training on robotics for the teams while HUST will coordinate with others in developing a curriculum to train students.
