Over the past 30 years, the Provincial Red Cross has successfully mobilized supports from people from all walk in Dong Nai to help the local poor. In the year 2006, the Organization gave gifts to over 140,000 needy families in the province, presented 725 wheelchairs to disabled people, built 272 houses for the poor, granted 3,117 scholarships to poor students and donated VND 800 million to help Xangsane victims in the hardest hit provinces of Central region. Besides, under the program to bring light to poor blind people, the Organization has provided free eye surgeries for 1,671 poor cataract patients. During this year, the Organization has supported a variety of local charities with total donations of over VND 27 billion.
Speaking at the celebration, Mr. Pham Van Trong praised efforts of the Provincial Red Cross in charity activities over the past years. He also took this opportunity to thank donors for their support during the past years. He hoped that the Organization would organize further charity activities in the province in the coming time. On the occasion, many outstanding units and individuals of the Organization were presented with certificates of merit and campaign medals. At the ceremony, 10 wheelchairs were presented to disabled persons and 100 bicycles were given to poor students throughout the province.
