During a gathering for families of workers held recently, Chairwoman of the Dong Nai Labor Federation Nguyen Thi Nhu Y presented Tet gifts to workers facing hardship and unable to return to their hometowns for the holiday. These timely gifts brought encouragement and motivation to laborers, particularly those living far from home.
Mr. Lai Van Bao, a worker from Ha Giang Province, has only returned home twice in over 12 years of working in Dong Nai due to financial difficulties and high travel costs. This year, he was moved to receive train tickets from the union to reunite with his family. Bao and his wife, both workers in Dong Nai, earn about VND 12 million per month, most of which is spent on rent, living expenses, and supporting their children’s education back home. Without savings, he had long missed celebrating Tet with his family.
“I’ll take the train on January 24, thanks to the support from Dong Nai’s labor union,” Bao said emotionally. “This is a meaningful gift that brings our family together for Tet.”
Similarly, Ms. Nguyen Thi Tran Tham from Dak Lak, who has worked in Trang Bom for a decade, expressed her gratitude upon receiving union support. “For ten years, I’ve stayed in Dong Nai for Tet due to hardship. This gift made me feel loved and cared for,” she shared.
The province's unions have been organizing meaningful gatherings and visiting worker dormitories to give gifts and moral support. To date, the provincial Labor Federation has provided over 81,000 Tet gift sets, with a total of 700,000 gifts planned across the province at a cost of approximately VND 450 billion, including VND 30 billion from the provincial People's Committee.
In Trang Bom District, the local union has organized two Tet events in major industrial zones, held family gatherings, and arranged transportation for nearly 100 workers. They also plan to send 2,000 workers from central and northern provinces home for Tet and continue distributing over 18,000 gifts to workers who remain in Dong Nai.
Many businesses have joined hands with grassroots unions to organize festive activities. At Pouchen Vietnam Co., Ltd. (Bien Hoa City), workers enthusiastically joined lucky draws for valuable prizes including refrigerators, TVs, electric bikes, and motorbikes. Over 1,000 Tet gift sets—each worth VND 1 million—were distributed to disadvantaged workers, including 500 sets sponsored by the provincial government.
In Long Thanh District, the local labor union distributed thousands of essential goods and cash gifts to struggling workers. A “Zero Dong Market” served 850 disadvantaged households and policy beneficiaries. Additionally, the union offered 50 round-trip and 80 one-way train tickets to workers, along with 21 extra gifts for those staying behind.
Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Nhu Y affirmed: “In 2024, workers contributed greatly to the province’s socio-economic development. However, many still face hardship. That’s why this Tet, we’re striving to ensure every worker can celebrate—especially those who haven’t been able to return home for years.”
